A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of setting up my office for the day in the Shangri-La Hotel Sydney. I had been in Sydney for a few weeks but not yet made it as far as the Harbour. Stepping into a Grand Harbour View Room at the Shangri-La, however, puts you directly in it. The Harbour became an extension of my room; the bridge extending from the end of the bed, the Opera House in my eye-line just left of the desk.
I was there to review the hotel but I couldn’t bring myself to leave the room. I hardly moved from the window. I set my laptop up on the window seat and just sat – dreaming, writing and taking photos – until the sun set. It is probably one of the most beautiful places I have sat down to work yet.
