Review: Rove Downtown Dubai

I think I’ve just stayed at the most social media savvy hotel in the world – I mean how many hotels have you stayed at that have a human sized hashtag at the front door? The Instagram opportunities at Rove Downtown Dubai start at the front door but continue throughout the property with guests most popular pictures displayed large on LCD screens in the lobby and social area. The whole hotel is an absolute delight for photography lovers as you’ll spot art, graphics and frames that encourage you to get snapping and sharing.

But gaining Insta likes is not the only reason to check into the Rove Downtown Dubai. It’s location, service and price point are pretty spot on too.

For a first time visitor to Dubai like myself the location could not have been better. Mere minutes from the Dubai Mall, Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa, not only are some of Dubai’s top attractions within easy reach but they are framed in your bedroom window too.

Our room at Rove was compact but perfectly formed with thoughtful touches like USB sockets next the bed and a graphic on the front of the safe to remind you to remove your bank cards and sunnies. The room also had a desk and mini fridge with daily complimentary water, but the best thing has to be the view of Dubai’s iconic and incredibly tall tower the Burj Khalifa.

The sun deck and pool also have a spectacular view of Downtown Dubai as well as friendly attendants who hand out towels and fresh lemonade.

One of my favourite parts of the hotel though was the on-site mini-market. (Words I’d never thought I ‘d hear myself say!) I literally squealed the first day I perused the shelves of international treats – including my favourite choccie from Australia, the UK and US – and it was incredibly handy to drop in there for cold drinks, ice creams or even a salad to go during our busy days of sight-seeing.

The Daily Downtown Dubai is also fantastic for big breakfasts and all day dining. We only had 1 breakfast there as I was busy sampling Aussie coffee and indulgent Dubai brunches but we ordered coffee most mornings and it never disappointed. The menu has a great selection of Asian, Western and Middle Eastern cuisine and there’s a deli counter for snacks too. The restaurant is licensed so you can order beer and wine with your meals.

Rove Downtown DubaiOther things to love about this hotel is the sociable lounge area – a hangout meets co-working space with Arabic-inspired drapes and carpets as well as work benches and even a cosy cubby with a Playstation.

Nearby is the storage room with large lockers that guests can store their luggage in and remove at any time of day or night. We made use of these on our last day and it was great to pop back and forth and get different outfits out without bothering the concierge.

In A Nutshell

    • This property is perfect for the self-sufficient traveller who wants somewhere central and stylish to base themselves in Dubai.
    • Gen Y will love the Insta opps, sociable lounge area and free and fast wi-fi.
    • Shopaholics will love the short distance to the Dubai Mall.
    • The staff are super polite and attentive and do small things that make a big difference like provide complimentary Arabic coffee and dates in the lobby.
    • Considering the location and quality of the property the price for rooms at Rove are incredibly reasonable. We paid $160AUD/£100GBP per night for a Burj view room via a deal on booking.com and this was a fraction of the price of every other property we looked at!
